A Reunion of Old Friends

Click on the photo to see more detail.

Badia Masabni stayed in touch with old friends after she retired from show business and moved back to Lebanon. She sometimes received visitors or met up with friends who were in town.

This photo shows Badia Masabni and some friends in Chtaura, the town where Badia owned and operated her dairy farm. This is truly a gathering of legends, as every single person in this picture left their mark in the history of Arab arts.

From left to right are:

  • Lebanese singer/comedian Najeeb Hankash
  • Assi Rahbani (Fairouz's husband)
  • Farid El Atrash
  • Fairouz
  • Mohamed Abdul Wahab
  • Badia Masabni
  • Lebanese composer/singer Philemon Wehbe
  • Composer Mansour Rahbani (Assi's brother)

According to the current owner of the dairy farm in Chtaura, this photograph was taken in 1966 at the Park Hotel in Chtaura which was founded by Najeeb Hankash. They were all on their way to watch the Oum Kalthoum concert in Baalbek. Badia Masabni had played a role in the reconciliation between Farid el Atrash and Abdul Wahab just before this photograph was taken.

As of 2014, a framed original of this photo still hangs at the dairy farm that was once owned by Badia Masabni in Chtaura, Lebanon.
