About Mohamed Abdel Moutaleb

Mohamed Abdel Moutaleb was a famous Egyptian singer who lived from 1910 to 1980. Mohamed Abdel Wahab recruited him to be a member of the chorus in his band, and he was a featured singer at Badia Masabni's theaters in the 1930's. He acted in more than 20 movies.

Abdel Moutaleb was one of the well-known shaabi singers in the era immediately following that of Sayed Darwish, in contrast to the concert hall style of Farid al-Atrache and Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Many of his songs remain beloved today.

Arabic Lyrics

English Translation

He never asks about me,
ولا بتشوفه عينيا أبدا and I never see him in person.

Many times i called out to him and begged him
انه يرق شوية أبدا that he becomes tender... but never.
He never asks about me.

The first time his eyes looked at me
فتنوني عليه وقالوا لي they fascinated me and asked me,
How did you make me happy?"
He makes me happy.

I can never stand having him be distant from me,
ولا احبش بعده أبدا and never will I love him from afar

Many times i called out to him and begged him
انه يرق شوية أبدا that he becomes tender... but never.
He never asks about me.

Between us was talk
وغرام ولا في الحواديت and love not even like that of fairy tales.
His heart was deprived of me
وأنساه لو همي نسيت and I'll forget him only when I forget my worries.

I never confused him,
ولا احبش بعده أبدا and never will I love him from afar.

Many times i called out to him and begged him
انه يرق شوية أبدا that he becomes tender... but never.
He never asks about me.

He doesn't ask.
He never asks about me.
