The Language Of Bees

by Esmerelda

Her dancing feet, gilded ankles, gilded hips,
Rippling, flying, her opalescent hands,
Music in her scented silver bones.
Undulating, ululating, hips swing, hot skin,
Heart-drum-beat, zarghareet,
Veiled hair, her celestial feet,
This is the language of bees.

About This Poem

Here's what Esmerelda, also known as Angharad Jones, has to say about this poem:

I wrote 'The Language of Bees' in 1999 as part of a creative writing course, and it was published in 'Famous Reporter', a Tasmanian literary biannual in June 1999. In this poem I am trying to express my joy regarding the beautiful Middle Eastern dance form. The title is a reference to the way bees communicate through movement, that dance is quite literally their language.
