The Worldwide Belly Dance Directory Has Been Discontinued

---------------

As of November 20, 2020, the worldwide directory of belly dancers has been discontinued.

The reason is because of the rise in laws around the world that govern privacy of individuals, such as the GDPR law in the European Union. These laws regulate the collection, publication, and management of personally identiable information (PII). Such information could include names, phone numbers, email addresses, and more.

Of course, this is exactly the information the directory used to provide.

It is impossible for Shira.net, a free web site run by ONE person, to stay informed of ongoing changes to privacy laws around the world. Impossible to track all the regulations, and impossible to comply with them.

It makes me sad to say good-bye to this aspect of my web site which has been in place for 22 years, but nothing lasts forever.

Many thanks to all of you who have listed yourself in the directory over the years, and steered people to it who were looking for teachers or performers in certain areas. I hope it has helped you get gigs, attract students, and connect with your communities.
