Five-Minute Bazuki

by Dr. Charles Albano

To start a poem,
I don't intend
to say ahead of time,
where it will start
or find its end.
I get my hand to trace a line
across the page--
then the pendulum swings back,
and moving fast
it gathers strength
for one more line's attack.

This poem I write
in near-real time,
with Bazuki music
in my ears.
It drives me faster to combine
muscle movements
with verse and rhyme.
Pounding, tapping, rhythmic beats,
crowded alleys, Eastern streets--
belly-dancing maidens bend...
perhaps this poem has found an end!

About The Poet

Photograph Of Dr. Charles Albano

Although not a member of the dance community himself, Dr. Charles Albano admires and finds beauty in belly dancing and other forms of dance as performed by women.

Charles loves to write poetry--poetry of a very broad and diverse nature, poetry that touches on interests ranging from dance to science fiction. He uses both rhyming and free verse styles of writing, and has been writing poetry for about eight years. He enjoys it because it requires creativity which, for him, is one of the personal footprints we may leave behind in this life.

Since boyhood Charles has been interested in the archaeology and mythology of Egypt along with the native peoples of the Western hemisphere, particularly Mayan
and Incan.

If you would like to send e-mail to Charles to tell him you enjoyed his poem, you can reach him at CharlesAlbano@webtv.net.
