Οξυγόνο
(Oxygono)

(Oxygen)

This page contains a translation into English of the lyrics to the 2016 Greek song "Oxygono" (Οξυγόνο), which was sung by Naya, with backup vocals by Katerina Stikoudi. Also included is a pronunciation guide for the Greek lyrics so you can sing along if you like.

Song lyrics are provided for educational purposes. If you like the song, please purchase either the album or a download from an authorized source.

I personally would use this as a dramatic entrance for a belly dance performance in a nightclub show, entering either with wings or fire.

About Naya

Naya was born to Greek parents in Albania and went to school for training as a makeup artist. She showed interest in the arts at an early age, including music, dance, and painting. Her artistic career began as a professional Oriental dancer (belly dancer) in Greek dance clubs.

She appeared on the Greek music scene in 2015 when the record label named The Spicy Effect released her song "Min Akous Kanenan" as a single. The song showed a new side of her to Greek audiences.

More recently, she changed record labels and now records with Panik Platinum.

About DJ Rico

DJ Rico is the stage name for Vagelis Serifis, the artist who collaborated on composing this song and wrote the lyrics for it. In 2018, he married Katerina Stikoudi, the artist who sang the backup vocals for Naya on the song "Oxygono". Before entering the music industry, he taught secondary school.

  1. "Wax doll" refers to the waxwork likenesses of people, such as those at Madame Tussaud's museum.
  2. In English, we might say, "You wanted a change of scenery" or "a change of pace".
  3. Literally, "in one moment".
  4. Literally, "if you say everywhere".
  5. Literally, "you would last away from me".

About the Translator

This page was contributed by Panayiota Bakis, who is happy to share her culture and music she grew up with! Here's how Panayiota describes her background:

I always love engaging with intelligent like-minded people, especially artists. I love sharing anything and everything about my Hellenic culture and upbringing, especially music and dance. A conversation with me will bring you back to America's favorite Greek-American movie by Nia Vardalos called My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

I love investigating Greek culture, history, music, and dance. Speaking of investigating, I think I missed my calling, I probably should have been an investigator. Instead, I use those skills to dig and dig and dig tirelessly, often times falling asleep on my laptop... just to find the truth. But, most importantly, accurate truth. For me personally, and other respectable folklorists, my culture and accuracy are very important. Each generation of ethnic born artists has a duty to do the best it can to pass down our traditions as was taught to us. We have been given this artistic gift to be the gatekeepers of our heritage and culture.
