I have three brothers and no sisters. I'm the youngest. When I was growing up, I used to call them the Three Stooges. It seemed to fit. The picture to the right shows three of my favorite men in my life: two of my brothers, and my husband. |
| In college I majored in journalism and French. I then got a Master'sof Business Administration. While doing all of that, I also studied German and Spanish just for fun. I can still speak German and French well enough to carry on a basic conversation with someone who does not speak English, as long as they speak slowly and are willing to put up with my grammatical errors! |
| I'm married to a handsome devil named Bill Smith. We met at an International Folk Dance Club in college. Our wedding was May 31, 1981. Bill has a Ph.D. in mathematics, a Master's degree in statistics, and a BA in mathematics with emphasis on computer science. |

We have one cat. We used to have three, but two have died. Maybe someday I'll get organized enough to put their pictures up here on my web page. They have been part of our family since 1985. Do you have cats in your own household? If so, try playing this sound clip with your cat in the room and watch his/her reaction. Other visitors to this web site have e-mailed me some highly entertaining stories about the way their cats responded to hearing this clip! |

I first started learning to dance when I was in kindergarten and my mother enrolled me in tap dance lessons. I enjoyed those for about 6 years. When I went to college, I was a dancer in the University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders for 3 years. I joined after visiting my brother in Scotland, where he was living at the time, and watching the Scottish Highland Dance competition at a Highland Games there. I really wanted to learn how to do Scottish Highland dance after seeing the competition, so when I returned home to Iowa, I joined the Highlanders. I enjoy belly dance and international folk dance. I first took up international folk dance in the spring of 1978. I took up belly dancing in January, 1981. I met my husband, Bill, at the University of Iowa international folk dance club in 1978, and he has been my favorite dance partner ever since. |
